Our story

We are a non-profit association founded in 1978 in the town of Bunyola (Mallorca). We are dedicated to the animation of evenings and parties, combining this task with the research, investigation and dissemination of our popular traditions, especially regarding reference to Mallorcan music, dances and clothing.

From the beginning the main characteristic of the group has been learning, until reaching the appropriate level to initiate a pedagogical task of the most important features of our objectives: music, dance and clothing.

Boleros, jotes, copeos, sames and fandangos with their variants are a sample of our traditional dances, as well as the live music of string rondalla, flabiol, xeremies, percussion... and the songs that accompany most of these dances, referred to exclusively in the folklore of Mallorca and more specifically in the mountainous region of Bunyola.

We can differentiate between work (or peasant) clothes, made of cotton, cloth and other coarse fabrics, appropriate for work in the field and everyday chores. Changing dresses made with silk fabrics, damask, thread, brocade... enriched with lace, lace, embroidery and other accessories, which tell us which people wore them and when.

Affecting the animation of parties and evenings, our task has been characterized since its beginnings to recover and promote ballads in the squares and streets with popular participation throughout the towns of Mallorca.

As a dynamizing element of the popular festivals, the group actively participates in the patron saint festival of Sant Mateu and the festivals of Santa Catalina, Mare de Déu de les Neus, La Fira... In the same way it collaborates with other organizations in the town.

Co-founders and members of the Majorcan Music and Dance Federation, as part of its objectives we participate in national and international festivals, congresses and days of popular culture, cultural exchanges with other groups, etc.

Es Quarteró is the party commemorating the celebration that the Bunyoline olive harvesters used to have when they finished the harvest season in each estate. The name comes from the "quartó" of wine (16 litres) that the mayoral brought to the party, the traditional food (because there was nothing else) were herrings and sweet potatoes. This party takes place in a different possession every year and has been institutionalized on the last Sunday of January.
